Character Creation

After entering your preferred server and room, you will see a "create" button at the bottom of the screen. Clicking on it will take you to the character selection screen.

You have three options, the Mosswalker, the Dimmed and the Weatherer

The Weatherer and the Dimmed play the same, except that the Dimmed cannot have children.
The Mosswalker can have children, and it has a different skill set. (v0.0.4p4)

Here you can choose if you want to have a child or not.
The option is the mark at the bottom of the screen.
The list of traits depends on the form you have chosen.
The rest of the options have no effect on the game. (v0.0.4p4)

You can select 3 skills. The Mosswalker only has two currently available, but you must select them on this screen to gain access in the game. (v0.0.4p4)
The Dark One and the Weatherman have 4.
It is recommended that you pick up the skill to mount the fireplace if you play as one of them, it will dry you out when you are wet, and the fire is necessary to prepare the tea.
Skills can be clicked for a short description.

Here you can choose the color of the eyes, the voice and add some flavor text. No game effect. (V0.0.4p4)

Todo The initial team is random, but you can reroll as many times as you want by pressing the button with the dice. Todor equipment, except for the factory/small Alken lanterns and the heavy Tombac lantern, has no cosmetic or gameplay effects. (v0.0.3p2)

You can save a set of equipment you like using "Save", and you can come back later after shooting again with "Recover".

Your name is randomly generated (v0.0.3p2). Click the "first name" or "last name" button to retype your first or last name respectively. You can add a nickname as flavor text.

The storage and retrieval system works the same way as for the computer.

Now you can create your new character!

How to start and avoid doom

To move your character, you have to click on the screen and your character will go to the indicated point (screenshot of the pointer). You can also move the pointer with WASD or with the arrow keys.

  • By clicking the left button, your character will start walking to where you have selected.

  • The middle click makes your character say "hey", it also makes your child or pet (not yet implemented) come back to you.

  • The right click works like the "left click," but you run instead of walking. Running costs stamina. (the white bar)
When you right-click on an icon, you can often have more information about it (details about abilities or items in your inventory). At the top left of your screen is your health (called in-game energy) and your stamina .

Your energy will slowly deplete as you explore the world. Various status effects will drain your energy faster.

Once your energy is depleted, you will collapse from exhaustion.

If there is no one to help you get up, you will pass out and lose a petal of life. If you lose all four, you will die. Permanently. (v0.0.4p4)

The most common problem new players face is starvation.

Your first goal should be to find food. Various merchants sell food, and groceries sometimes appear in containers that can be looted. The food vendors are here: (list of locations if not marked on the map) (marked as spoiler?)

    - (Map showing merchants with food, and maybe food spawn points)

    Lootable items

When the mouse hovers over a lootable item, the item will glow. Click to get closer to him. An icon will appear to loot the item.

If you've found something, open your inventory to examine the item. Your inventory is the bag icon in the bar in the center of the screen.

Right-click on the item in your inventory to display more information. If the object you have found is edible, it will say so directly below the image.
Press the "eat" button at the bottom left of the info card to consume the item.

    Rarity of the item

Food with a deep blue background restores a lot of energy, suppresses hunger, and is expensive. Foods with a white or brown background restore some energy, suppress hunger, and are inexpensive. Light blue is a middle ground between the two.

[Commercial goods and equipment follow this pattern to indicate their value.

Combat

To fight, you need a weapon.
Without a weapon you cannot start combat.
To enter combat stance, press the "draw weapon" button at the bottom right. You will see a white circle appear around you, a black aura above your head and your cursor will transform into a sword. Nearby NPCs will also have an aura.
(on OSX and Linux the aura may appear as a black rectangle v0.0.4p4)

- (Image ready for combat)

You can only fight certain NPCs. The NPCs must be within your combat circle, and change your cursor to a sword with slashing effects when you step over them. (Better writing?)

- (image of slashed sword)

Press the same button you used to enter combat to sheathe your weapon. (Image?) There is no penalty for entering and exiting the combat state near NPCs. Enemies will only enter combat if you or another player initiates it.

List of enemies

  • Certain bandits
  • Some guardians
  • Some mystics

NPCs that you can fight appear very rarely

Fighting

To start combat, click on the opponent you have chosen. Sometimes (rarely), NPCs of the same type will attack you todif they are within your combat radius.

During combat, your character will automatically block todthe attacks of 2 enemies. If you fight more than 2, you may be hit and risk losing a life petal.

To attack, click on your opponent. An attack animation will play. Enemies will need several hits to die.

You can run away from combat by running outside the orange circle.

Equipment has no effect in combat. (v0.0.4p4)

After the fight

After successfully defeating your opponent, your character will hyperventilate and you will get tired. Rest to remove this effect.

You can loot an enemy's corpse by clicking on their bag. This is one way to acquire knots and teas, although it is not always reliable.

Run away

You can flee from combat if you get out of the red circle. An icon will appear and clicking on it will trigger a map change loading screen and your character will go to one of the neighboring maps.

Reagents and batches

You will find containers of objects or plants scattered throughout todto the braided shore. Here's a list of what the loot containers look like and what plants you can harvest!

Travel Book, The Compendium (downloadable application)

This tool was created in an effort to gather todWe'll discover what you find while wandering through the different areas of the game and we hope it will provide some guidance to lost travelers.
The guide can also be used for testing purposes, to quickly see where certain efforts or loot containers can be found.

Be a beta tester

You are a beta tester, which means the game is very much a work in progress. Part of the joy of being a tester is watching the game world grow and evolve into a finished state. You can contribute to this process by submitting bug reports, an option that you will find in the settings menu after pressing the escape key.

You can take screenshots using the opening icon at the bottom of the screen.

Selecting "Report a bug" will bring up a menu with a blank text box that you can type in, as well as a drop-down menu on the right that you can use to select screenshots to attach to your report.

This will send a report to Trello, which you can view by selecting the "Trello" button after submitting your report.

You can vote on bug reports in Trello to let developers know which bugs you'd like to see addressed first. Then the wonderful developers will do todor whatever they can to address what they can.

That's todor what we are sharing today in Book of Travels - Ultimate Beginner's Guide (v0.0.4p4), feel free to leave a comment below. See ya!
