  • Processed items of smelting furnace, coal furnace, cooking station.

Valheim -Full Basic Guide For Beginners

How to unlock new recipes:

To unlock different recipes or structures you have to get at least one of the elements necessary to make the craft. For example, if you want to get the recipe to make a flint ax, you must first find flint and wood.

Navigation basics

There is at least three ships in the game:
- Raft: Small slow basic boat.
Valheim -Full Basic Guide For Beginners

- Karve: Bigger and faster than the raft. You can unlock it
Valheim -Full Basic Guide For Beginners
- Longship: I have no information yet.

The raft (raft) is the pot that you will use until you unlock the Karve.

Use W to increase speed and S to decrease speed on the helm gauge.
Use A or D to turn the rudder left or right.

There are two indicators in our user interface to help us navigate.

Valheim -Full Basic Guide For Beginners

1. Rudder indicator:

  • Shows the direction of the rudder. It can rotate 90º to the left or right.
  • Show your speedometer.

2. Wind indicator:

  • It shows the wind direction and if the wind is moving your boat. If the wind icon is white and hits the gold part of the circle, the ship is getting enough wind to move. Gray wind and hitting the black part of the circle your boat will not be able to move using the sail.
  • Show your speedometer.

Speedometer information:
1. Small arrows on the wheel icon:

  • One Up Arrow: Forward Rowing Speed.
  • Two up arrows: low candle speed.
  • Three up arrows: Maximum sail speed.
  • One Down Arrow: Backward Rowing Speed.

2. Icon on the wind circle:

  • Rowing: Rowing speed.
  • Sail up: Low sail speed.
  • Sail lowered: Maximum sail speed.

If you you fall from your boat you can go up again looking for the ladder at the backsera of the raft or left side of the Karve .

Surtling heart and how to get them.

What is a heart of heart?

The heart of Surtling is very important early in the game as it allows you to craft the Smelting Furnace and the Coal Furnace which allows you to melt minerals and craft copper, iron and other better weapons and tools.

Valheim -Full Basic Guide For Beginners

You need 10 Hearts of Hearts. 5 to manufacture the smelting furnace and 5 to manufacture the coal furnace. I recommend making the cast oven first, as you can get some charcoal from the cooking station by burning your food.

Where can I get heart of a heart?

You can find this article at:

  • Random Chest: It has a very low drop since todI still didn't find any in a chest.
  • Inside the dungeons. Around 0-9 in a single dungeon. There are some dungeons that are empty and there are large dungeons with many of these.
  • Supply: Kill these fire monsters to make them drop it.
Breaking smelting furnace or coal furnace:

If you break one of these buildings, you will get 5 Surtling hearts back, so don't worry.

Crypt Key

You can get a crypt key after defeating the boss The Sage. This key allows you to open the swamp temples that you can find in the swamp biomes.

Valheim -Full Basic Guide For Beginners

You can use 1x Crypt Key to unlock one of these temples.

Valheim -Full Basic Guide For Beginners

Inside the crypt you will also find some chests with strong elements and enemies, so get ready to fight.

How to add markers on the map

You can add 5 different markers on your map. These markers are local so if you are playing with some friends they will not be able to see them.
Valheim -Full Basic Guide For Beginners

To select a marker you have to click with the left mouse button on it, you can find the markers in the lower right corner of the map.

For place a new marker double left click on the map , type the name of the bookmark and hit enter. In order to delete a bookmark, right click on it .

With this tool you can open a new menu where you can choose different options:

When your crops are ready, you can walk over and pick them up. Keep in mind that the seeds need some room to grow, so don't plant them close to each other.

Cooking and potions

There are three main crafting elements that you can use to cook and make potions:

Cooking station:

  • You need a fire underneath.
  • You can place two in the same campfire.
  • You can cook two pieces of meat, fish, and tail at each cooking station.
  • You can create it with wood x2
Keep in mind that if you do not eat the food when it is ready, it will burn and you will get charcoal.

Cauldron:

  • You need a fire underneath.
  • You can place a cauldron on a campfire.
  • You can cook: Carrot soup, Queen's jam, sausage and malt to make potions.
Fermenter:
  • You need an empty space on top.
  • You can use the malt obtained from the cauldron to obtain different potions:
    • Cold resistance.
    • Very healthy
    • Healthy
    • Poison resistance
    • Bracing
    • Very invigorating
    • Tasty
  • To use the fermenter, put the malt inside and wait until it ferments.

Fish

In order to fish you need a fishing rod and a fishing bait that you can buy at a merchant.

  1. Equip your fishing pole and have some bait in your inventory.
  2. Look for fish in the sea, lake or similar. Don't throw your hook into the sea at random.
  3. Left click with the fishing rod. The longer you hold the left click, the further the hook will go. You will spend a bait for each left click.
  4. Wait until a fish moves your hook, when the hook goes down press right click and keep it pressed until the fish is close enough to catch it by pressing E.

Tame

You can tame some animals in the game, this allows you to make a small "farm" and multiply them to get more food.

The following guide on how to tame animals is made by judaspriester . A special thanks to him:

Necessary material:

  • Azada
  • Wood (30 should be enough)
  • Vegetables (berries, mushrooms, etc., preferably 20+)

Steps:

  1. Use the hoe to make a flat space for his pen.
  2. Build a pen with round post fences. It doesn't have to look fancy, but it shouldn't contain holes.
  3. Add a door to your pen to get in and out.
  4. Drop the vegetables into the pen.
  5. (The hard way) Find some boars and have them attack you (getting close enough usually bastar). Now run to your pen and make sure they follow you.
  6. Once they're inside, go outside and shut the door without them leaving.
  7. Wait, it'll take about an hour to tame them, but you can do other things in the meantime.
  8. Once they are tame, you can pet them to keep them happy. To keep feeding them, just drop the food on the ground.

Portals

Portals allow players to travel long distances instantly. You need two portals named with the same tag.

You need to have a Workbench in scope or the portal will not work.

There are some items that cannot be teleported, so if you have one of these in your inventory, you will not be able to teleport. These are:
  • Tin ore
  • Tin
  • Copper ore
  • Copper
  • Bronze
  • Silver ore
