If you want to get a permanent 2-star wolf, you must tame and care for 2-star wolves long enough for them to have cubs. 2-star puppies that grow into adults don't go away. Works! confirmed. But you will have to spend 1 to 2 hours sitting there. (You can toggle the tab and do other things)

Tame 2-star wolves to breed in Valheim

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, here are some basics you should know:

  • One-star and two-star wolves breed only at night (and in the mountains, of course).
  • They only eat at night.
  • They will disappear as soon as you step away a bit.

So the problem is basically that you can't tame them the usual way. Which is a bummer because they have a lot of life, more than a normal wolf and they do a lot more damage. You can have up to 4 wolves following you, and you can let them roam freely for base defense (although I suggest you build a stockade or else they will repopulate your island and reproduce uncontrollably)

Preparation

The preparation here may seem excessive, but finding a 2-star wolf will be difficult and losing todyour efforts for a silly mistake is very frustrante. it is better to take extra precautions.

  1. Build a sturdy pen first. I make mine in 2-3 layers, preferably stone just to be safe (2 star wolves do a lot of damage!) Optionally 2 levels high (with a roof to avoid dragon attacks)
  2. Make a platform at the back that you can jump on, make it deep so you can sneak out of the wolf's vision. The reason for this is that if the wolf sees you, it will attack the wall and escape. But if you go too far, he disappears ... so prepare to stay in jail.
Behind the platform, leave a ladder in case you can jump through an opening in the ceiling (this in case he can't sneak away)
  3. Leave an opening in the wall to enter (you and the wolf), some players suggest jumping onto the platform and then quickly blocking the exit… I prefer to build double door doors, let the wolf follow me while I block walking backwards; close the door, then jump onto the platform and add an additional stone wall.
  4. Prepare RAW meat; LOTS of meat. 40 should be enough, so I got 60.
  5. Catch a starless wolf. The reason is, of course, that you want me to make 2-star puppies. If you go looking for it later ... then the 2-star wolf will disappear. Personally, I didn't wait until the starless wolf was tamed before bringing in the 2-star one.
  6. Tira todto that raw meat on the ground (in the corral, of course). you can throw todto the pile, it is not necessary to throw them one by one.
  7. If you have full troll armor, it would be nice to keep it in inventory or store it in a chest on the platform for later.

Catching the wolf

  • Now wait for the night. They NEVER appear during the day. Just run around the mountain and hope you get lucky. Sometimes they tend to show up in the same places, but you have to go a long way to force a reappearance. Got mine in 10 minutes, luck?
  • There is a possibility that there are other wolves without stars in the pack, move them away if you can to make it easier to capture the 2 stars. Also, try not to let the 2 star wolf kill you. Good food and potions are recommended.
  • Hopefully the path to your corral is clear, the golems and dragons that kill your wolf are the Julior danger on the way to your corral.
  • Open the doors and lock it, don't forget there is another starless wolf inside (unless you tame it) let the 2 star wolf in, close the doors and jump to safety.
  • Sneak away and go back to the backsera off the platform, hopefully out of sight. If the wolf keeps attacking your walls, he tries to sneak you further. If it keeps attacking, jump and to get far enough away until you see the attacks stop, but no further. Then sneak back down the stairs and up onto the platform. Full troll armor would be very useful now.

The waiting game

  • Expect. You can't do anything else. The 2-star wolf will ONLY eat during the night, so shortly after dawn it will be hungry and will no longer be tamed. It is normal. You have to wait until dark for him to eat again. It takes about 3-4 full day / night cycles to tame it.
  • I think you can sleep by the campfire. However, I did not do it during domestication ... I dared to try it only once she had 2 puppies that were 2 stars and it did not disappear. It should be safe then, but my bed was directly in front of the pen, touching it.
  • Just keep looking, repair if necessary, but remember that in repair mode you no longer sneak away, and if the wolves see you, they will scare you, you will stop the taming counter and attack you ... or if they cannot reach you they will attack the walls.
  • Normally you see that the hearts go up indicating that it is being tamed. If you get close enough, you will see a percentage progress bar. If the heart stops generally it is because they are hungry (it is daytime or there is no food on the ground) or scared (they see you), or they are already domesticated. In any case, a thorough inspection will tell you why, although avoid disturbing or approaching when you can. Until finally ... The wolf is tamed! Breeding

  • Well, your wolf is tamed ... but you are not done yet. Now you have to wait for those wolves to make babies. Keep waiting, come on. A 2-star wolf will make a 2-star cub. The problem is, you have a 50% chance that the other wolf will spawn a starless cub.
  • I can't confirm this, but I still avoided sleeping. Since the 2-star wolf feeds only at night, it will be hungry during the day and therefore will not mate during the day.
  • Once you have a 2-star puppy, you can relax… now you can start your breeding program. Or you can also stay 1 to 2 more nights for faster reproduction keeping the current 2 stars, since if you move away your puppy will stay, but your original wolf will disappear.
  • If you choose to stay and you have many 2 star wolves, you will know which one is the original because it will always be hungry during the day, the others will not. Go, come back... and todThey will still be there!
  • If there is no more food on the ground, the wolves do not die but they stop reproducing. They may escape (to be confirmed) I can't know, mine have meat for todas parts and populate like rabbits
  • If released into the wild, they will attack other animals, feed on fallen meat, and reproduce. Monster Loot todhe parts of your map may sound fun at first…Valheim How to tame and keep 2-star wolves (level 3)

You sow what you reap

So now the only thing you have to deal with is the constant howling and the danger of losing control of the population.

One last tip: you can transport wolves by boat if you build a platform on top of the boat and then destroy the platform. (wolves don't like stairs)
